Curriculum Intent

During their time at Nathaniel Newton Infant School, we want our children to have the opportunity to develop and explore their creativity through access to a wide variety of art work, skills and techniques.

They should have the opportunity to invent and create their own ideas and be supported to develop these across Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 through high quality continuous provision in Reception and opportunities for art work across different topics in Key Stage 1.

We want our children to be inspired by great artists through art days and weeks exposing them to different pieces of art in each year group.

We also want to give them the opportunity to explore their own creativity through different mediums of art, such as using our school and local outdoor spaces as inspiration and alternative resources and canvasses. We want our children to be taught different skills such as how to properly hold a paint brush and how to use colour and for these skills to be expanded upon as they move through the school.
