Summer 1 Secret Garden

Ash End Farm

The Bumblebees had a fantastic day visiting the farm. We saw lots of different animals and learnt the names of the males, females and babies. We had the chance to stroke a newborn chick and even hold a snake. We also fed lots of animals!

As part of our new topic we have been looking at the signs of spring. We had a lovely walk around school and spotted lots of signs of spring such as bluebells, daffodils and blossom on the trees. We have been exploring the outside area and have found lots of mini beasts including worms, snails, bumblebees, ladybirds and centipedes.

Spring 2 The Smartest Gruffalo on the Broom

Music Lesson

We had a great music lesson today which helped us with our writing skills. We used big movements and listened to the music to help us to write letters.

World Book Day

As a class we looked at the book 'Luna Loves Art'. The Bumblebees explored art through colour mixing, observational sketching and looking at a wide range of artists. Throughout the day we shared stories, created art, reinvented our story and made our own freeze frame comic.

Gruffalo Crumble

We were lucky enough to have a visit from Chef Amy today. She taught us lots about food safety and how to follow a recipe and made a delicious Gruffalo crumble that we all got to try.

Spring 1 Space

The Bumblebees have made a great start to the new term! This term we are looking at Space and we have been finding out lots of information about our solar system. We have enjoyed learning some songs all about the planets, and we can name lots of the planets in the solar system. We have also been making lots of space art, creating our very own planets using lots of different colours.

Our new book in English is 'Whatever Next'. The bumblebees made some great predictions when they found some unusual things left outside our classroom.

We can retell our story using our story map and actions to help. This week we have been using our imaginations and working together to create our own version of 'Whatever Next'. The Bumblebees came up with some fantastic ideas!

Autumn 2 Let's Celebrate!

Christmas

Christmas preparations are well under way in the Bumblebee class. We have been working hard on our Nativity. We can't wait for you all to see our performance!

Little Red Hen

The bumblebees have been looking at the tale of 'The Little Red Hen'. We have learnt the whole story and added our own actions to help us to act out the story. We had a go at describing the Little Red Hen and came up with some fantastic ideas. The bumblebees did some great work, writing simple words from the story. We also recreated the story using our own ideas and made our very own bread, which was delicious!

Wedding

It is wedding week! The bumblebees have been busy preparing for the wedding day, making invitations, decorations, natural confetti and much more. We have found out lots of facts about Christian weddings, comparing them to Hindu weddings. We found some similarities between the two celebrations and lots of differences too.

Diwali

In class this week we have been looking at the Hindu celebration of Diwali. We decorated our home corner using bright coloured fabrics and made our own diya lamps to celebrate the festival of light. The bumblebees enjoyed making their own mendhi patterns using paint and cotton buds and dressing up in traditional Indian clothing.

Bonfire Night

We have learnt all about bonfire night and why we celebrate it. The bumblebees enjoyed hot chocolate and roasting marshmallows by our very own (pretend) bonfire. We watched a fantastic firework display and made our own firework pictures using chalks and crayons. We also made some brilliant rockets using junk modelling and beautiful sparklers with beads and pipe cleaners.

Autumn 1 Once upon a rhyme

This half-term our topic in reception is Once Upon A Rhyme. We have been learning some nursery rhymes including Humpty Dumpty and Incy Wincy Spider.  We have made some fantastic Humpty Dumpty collages and used our maths skills to create our own spiders with 8 legs! The bumblebees have also been busy with their paintbrushes creating some fantastic bumblebee pictures to decorate our lovely classroom.

The bumblebees have settled well into school, and they are enjoying mixing as a whole class after their sessions with half a class. They have been busy making new friends and getting used to our school routines.

We have also been looking at the changes happening during autumn. We went for an autumn walk through our wooded area and collected natural objects to use in our artwork.
