Spring 2

Easter

There have been lots of Easter activities going on in school this week. We were very excited to have our own Easter egg hunt where we worked as a team to help each other find all the eggs.

It was great fun testing out our decorated eggs with the egg rolling competition. Well done everyone 😃.

We have made some delicious Easter nest cakes and decorated our own baskets to carry them. Everyone worked really hard to design their own Easter card too, we hope you like them.

On Friday we took part in the Easter bonnet parade. It was great to see all the hard work that has been put in to the bonnets, well done everyone.

Secret Garden

This half-term we have been covering our secret garden topic. We have learnt all about plants and mini beasts and looked at the changes that happen around us at spring time.

We enjoyed being scientists and experimenting with flowers and vegetables using different coloured liquids to change their colour.

We made some lovely art work including painting daffodils, using carrots and paints to write our names and making patterns with potato printing.

In literacy, we had a go at being gardeners and planted cress seeds. We were then able to write our own set of instructions about the process.
Oliver’s vegetable has been our focus text in literacy so we have done lots of veggie based activities including building vegetable patches in the construction area, writing shopping lists for Oliver, planting seeds in the mud in the small world and experimenting with vegetables.

We have also had a very special arrival in reception this week…caterpillars! We can’t wait to watch them grow into butterflies so we made our own beautiful butterflies to hang in the classroom.

Hoop Guy

Yesterday we were lucky enough to participate in the ‘Hoop Guy’ experience. We watched a fantastic performance in our morning assembly. The children had so much fun clapping and cheering and it was lovely to see the awe and amazement on their faces. In the afternoon we visited hoop guy and played lots of hoop related games. It was a great way to exercise and have fun!

Snow Day!

We had lots of fun exploring the snow at school. We worked really hard to build a snowman. It was very cold!

World Book Day

It was fantastic to see all the children in their costumes and pyjamas for world book day. We spent the day focusing on the story ‘Tad’ about a tadpole growing into a frog. The children did lots of ‘froggy’ activities throughout the day.
We also worked together to create a collaborative art piece based on our story. The children created a fantastic canvas and this is now on display in our school library.

Spring 1

When we arrived back in school we made a strange discovery outside the classroom. There were some objects scattered in the outside area that we thought may have come from a rocket or a spaceship. We received a letter from an important astronaut who said that his rocket had crash-landed in the school grounds. Over the past few weeks we have been learning lots about space and astronauts. We have been working hard to design a new rocket for the astronaut. We have been learning all about space. We have made some amazing discoveries about gravity and we have been practising naming the planets. In PE we went on a special mission to the moon and practised moon jumps and exploring the moons surface by travelling in different ways.

We have made some beautiful pieces of artwork in the style of Van Gogh, adding our own space themed touches. We have also been learning a space song with lots of actions.

We're Going On A Bear Hunt

In literacy we have been looking at the story 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt'. We made a discovery of mud, snow, water and grass in the classroom and came up with some predictions about what might happen in the story. We have made teddy bear collages and masks and we even made our own mini versions of the book, drawing the different settings such as grass, mud and the river.

Wonder Dome

Autumn 2

This half term our topic is 'Let's Celebrate'. We have been looking at lots of differer celebrations across different religions and cultures. We began the topic by learning about Bonfire Night and enjoyed making our own firework art and having hot chocolate whilst watching a magnificent firework display.

Wedding

We have had a great time preparing for our wedding in reception. We made invitations, decorations and our very own confetti using leaves. The children had  a fantastic time participating in the wedding ceremony and really enjoyed the wedding celebrations with lots of food and dancing.

Birthday

One of our focus texts in literacy has been Kipper's Birthday. We have been learning about how we each celebrate our birthdays and sharing our experiences. We wrote a birthday list for Kipper, made  him birthday cards and decorated the classroom. We finished off the topic with a huge birthday party where we all sang Happy Birthday to Kipper and shared some cake with him.

Christmas

Everyone has been working hard in RHa to get ready for our special Christmas performance of 'The Little Blue Star'. The class put on an amazing performance, we are so proud! We have been celebrating Christmas by making decorations, writing Christmas cards and writing a very special list to Santa which we posted in the special North Pole postbox that appeared in the classroom.

Autumn 1

Our topic this half-term is Once Upon A Rhyme. We have been learning lots of different nursery rhymes and actions to go with our rhymes. We have also looked at people who help us like doctors, bus drivers and firefighters.

The children have settled well into school, enjoying exploring the activities in the classroom and in the outside area and have made lots of new friends.

We have made Incy Wincy spider and Humpty Dumpty sitting on his wall.

The children used crayons to make wonderful leaf rubbing pictures, practised their painting skills to make acorn and leaf paintings and made their own autumnal trees using leaves.
